Overview: Dr. Janet Jones is the author of the award-winning book, Horse Brain, Human Brain: The Neuroscience of Horsemanship, and the forthcoming book, A Horse’s World: A Neuroscientist’s Journey into the Equine Mind.

In this discussion, she will specifically highlight the neurological features that enable horses to excel at therapeutic work with humans.

Participants: This program is designed for all participants interested in learning about the neurological features that enhance the relationships between horses and humans.  There are no pre-requisites. 

We will provide a supportive environment to collaborate with professionals to enhance their knowledge.

Additional Program Details:

The biological nature of equine brains makes horses excellent for assisted therapy of many kinds.  This talk explores the effects of equine body language, emotional expression, non-automatic categorization, fear response and management, sensitivity to smell, purity of memory, and lack of prefrontal cortex or executive function.  These neurological features give the horse a unique ability to help human companions in ways that other animals cannot.
