Supporting children who have experienced trauma is difficult work. Added to the complexity of treatment is the assessment of progress, especially in young children or when the trauma is challenging to articulate. Join us for a straight-forward approach to assessing treatment progress in children. The discussion will include methods of assessment at various ages that are independent of treatment modality.

We hope you will join us.

This program intends to enhance the knowledge of participants, specifically by supporting them with additional assessment skills in the treatment of children who have experienced trauma and by providing a supportive environment for them to collaborate with other professionals to enhance their practice.

Gain skills in assessment of treatment progress in children who experienced trauma by:

  • Reviewing developmental theories that describe major milestones for specific age groups
  • Learning how trauma affects development in children
  • Understanding how trauma affects behaviors displayed by children

This program is designed for mental health professionals and is intended to be a collaborative environment for all levels of education and licensure.  Our space will accommodate about 10-15 participants.  There are no pre-requisites.  Participants who request one will receive a certificate of completion for 1.5 hours of continuing education.

Qualifications of the instructor in the subject matter:

Dr. Murrow is a licensed psychologist who leads Connection Therapy, a private practice focused on serving rural communities in three locations.  The multiple populations served by Connection Therapy provide a wide range of concerns that Dr. Murrow and her team are able to support.  Prior to practicing in Kansas, Dr. Murrow spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow at the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in Los Angeles.  She also is an adjunct professor who has taught graduate-level courses in psychological assessment, theory, research, and statistics. Dr. Murrow has completed research projects and had work published in the areas of animal-assisted therapy and how attachment affects development.

Participants will be offered a program evaluation, and will also be encouraged to provide their feedback during and after the discussion.
